Vanropari, Darzosih SHG,

Pawlrang, Ngopa RD Block, Saitual District, Mizoram

Thematic area: The success story of Mrs. Vanropari comes under the thematic area of Farm Livelihood area.

Brief overview: Mrs. Vanropari, an Agriculture CRP (A-CRP) from a small village called Pawlrang were daily wage labours before they started their sugarcane plantation. Utilizing CIF her family started plantation which have altered and changed their life for the better.

Detailed information: Mrs. Vanropari took CIF loan of Rs. 50,000 and added their family saving of Rs. 20,000 to start a sugarcane plantation in their farm in April, 2020. Luckily as they are living in a remote village, they were able to work in their farm during the pandemic and had their first harvest in December, 2020. The harvest was plentiful.

Luckily, they were also able to buy sugarcane crusher from the Agriculture Department, Govt. of Mizoram on a subsidized rate which became a real game changer as the family does not have to hire any help for crushing the sugarcane. After their first harvest, they were able to produce 25 kgs of jaggery.

From, January 2021 onwards, they crush their sugarcane regularly twice a week. They produce around 35-40 kgs of jaggery at one crush and selling 21 kg for Rs. 100. So, from January to May, 2021, their monthly income is approx. Rs. 32,000 and earning them around Rs. 1, 60,000 with these five months. More expansion is planned.

Testimony: Mr. K. Lalbuatsaiha h/o Mrs. Vanropari said “We used to be daily wage labours but after staring our sugarcane plantation and jaggery production using CIF, our lives have completely changed. Now, we are the ones hiring daily wage labourers in our plantation. We thank Mizoram SRLM for giving us the opportunity to restart our lives for the better. We would also like other SHG members to take up sugarcane plantations”.
