This group took up soap and candle making to support their families utilizing financial support such as CIF and Bank loans.

Detailed information: On 15th December, 2017, MzSRLM, W.Phaileng organised Skill Training Programme for SHGs in convergence with KVK, Lengpui. In this training, SHG members were given training on soap making, cake baking & pickle making. Two (2) members from Dawntliang SHG also participated in the Skill Training and were motivated and encouraged by this skill training and wanted to start their livelihood and generate more income from soap making and started collecting Aloe Vera from various places in and around their village.

They borrowed Community Investment Fund of Rs. 80000/- and started making soap with sizeable amount and apart from soap making they were engaged in candle making as well, they purchased candle moulds from other villages and started making candles utilizing almost all the funds they received.

Despite facing many problems such as moulding by hand which can produce limited candles in one night and in collecting their raw material which they have to collect from Aizawl resulted in not meeting the demands they have received.

They started earning more income by selling the soap and Candles to petty shops in W.Phaileng village and nearby Villages as all the group members were able to make Aloe Vera soap and Candle by their own and planned to carry on their group activity as Aloe Vera Soap making and Candle making. They can produce candle around the cost of Rs.2000/- per night. Therefore, their monthly income rises up to around Rs.35000/-

The income of its members has improved a lot owing to their production of candle and soap. They were very thankful and enjoying by being a member of SHG under MzSRLM and a benefit of low loan interest rate and they can easily avail loan when needed.

Despite of the Covid-19 lockdown, their activities has not come to a halt, as they are still very enthusiastic in performing their works yet following the government rules. They have created a sense of their own identity and developed confidence through their income generation.
